Harris Chain of Lakes
The Harris Chain of Lakes, nestled in Central Florida, is a renowned freshwater network that attracts anglers, boaters, and nature enthusiasts alike.
This chain encompasses eight major lakes: Lake Harris & Little Lake Harris, Lake Eustis, Lake Dora, Lake Beauclair, Lake Carlton, Lake Griffin, Lake Yale, and Lake Apopka.
Big & Little Harris
Spanning approximately 13,788 acres, Lake Harris stands as the largest in the chain. Known for its trophy largemouth bass, the lake offers ample structure with deep ledges and submerged vegetation, ideal for bass fishing..
Connected to Lake Harris, Little Lake Harris is smaller, covering around 2,729 acres. It mirrors the bass fishing prospects of its larger counterpart but provides a more intimate fishing experience. The lake's numerous docks and hydrilla beds are hotspots for bass, especially during the spawning season.
Lake Eustis
Lake Eustis encompasses about 7,806 acres and is renowned for its recreational boating as well as bass fishing. This lake features a diverse habitat with lily pads, reeds, and docks, offering a variety of fishing conditions. The lake's northeastern shore, particularly around Dead River, is a favored spot for catching largemouth bass.
Lake Dora
Covering 4,502 acres, Lake Dora is celebrated for its scenic beauty and bass fishing. The lake's structure includes docks, canals, and reed beds, providing excellent cover for bass. Anglers often find success in the waters near Mount Dora and the entrance to the Dora Canal. The lake's clear waters require a more stealthy approach to fishing.
Lake Beauclair
Lake Beauclair is a smaller lake in the chain, encompassing 1,134 acres. It is connected to Lake Dora and known for its clear waters and lush vegetation. The lake's bass fishing is excellent around the edges where the vegetation is denser. Its smaller size offers a quiet, less pressured fishing environment.
Lake Carlton
Adjacent to Lake Beauclair, Lake Carlton is relatively small, at about 354 acres. Despite its size, it's a hidden gem for bass fishing, with an abundance of submerged structures and vegetation. The lake's seclusion makes it a peaceful spot for fishing, particularly attractive for those looking to escape the busier lakes.
Lake Griffin
As the chain's northernmost lake, Lake Griffin spans about 9,327 acres. Its connection to the Ocklawaha River adds a unique element to its ecosystem. The lake has extensive vegetation, including lily pads and hydrilla, making it a haven for bass. The lake's northern end, near Haines Creek, is particularly prolific for bass fishing.
Lake Yale
Set apart from the main chain, Lake Yale covers around 4,000 acres. It's known for its peaceful setting and excellent bass fishing opportunities. The lake's sparse residential development means less boating traffic and a serene fishing environment. Its clear waters and abundant cover, including brush piles and vegetation, make it a preferred spot for anglers.
Lake Apopka
Lake Apopka, located in Central Florida, is the fourth largest lake in the state, covering a vast area of about 30,000 acres. Historically known for its fishing glory, the lake experienced ecological challenges but has been undergoing significant restoration efforts to revive its natural beauty and fish population.
